If I understand you, you are suggesting that instead of converting the
transitway between MK bridge and the queensway to (exclusive) rail,
that we should use Colonel By.
Would it connect to Hurdman somehow? or?
From: Andrew Craig
RESPONSE:
A feeding light-rail line can connect to Hurdman/VIA Rail Station from
where Colonel By branches away from the Nicholas St. corridor by building a
new underpass below Nicholas connecting to the existing transitway
southbound to Hurdman. I think using light-rail onto Waller St. with
lights at Laurier & Wilbrod is not feasible.
Connecting to the Union Station will travel underneath Laurier & MK Bridges.
If Colonel By is entirely used for light-rail only all the way to the
O-Train connection station at Carleton U then the requirement for
light-rail on Albert & Slater Streets will not be necessary by luring
transit users to commute further south for westbound commuting connection
to Kanata by using the existing railway tracks.
Also since the EX will likely to stay permanently at Lansdowne Park a
light-rail stop on Colonel By at Bank will certainly reduce car congestion
in the Glebe.
Colonel By will be an excellent and very economical route to extend
light-rail into downtown.

using Colonel By Drive for light-rail
From: Andrew Craig
I definitely agree to use existing railway tracks to expand light-rail.
One other suggestion that should be considered to expand light-rail into
downtown without sharing the route with traffic is to entirely close
Colonel By Drive to all traffic
between Carleton U (near the O-Train Station) and the former Union Station
at Rideau Street. That section of Colonel By should be used for one or
two-car light rail use only with two or three stops in between including
one at Bank Street. The worst snag is to convince the car-loved NCC
accepting this environmentally friendly public vehicle use.
I would certainly raise this suggestion if I could have the opportunity to
attend any of these future meetings.
