Friends of Cost-Effective public transit:
An important anniversary occurs tomorrow, Feb. 4, 2010.
It's the 9th anniversary of the arrival of Ottawa's new diesel
light rail trains in Ottawa, the Bombardier Talent BR643.
Unfortunately, instead of quickly expanding this service
onto more existing rail lines around Ottawa-Gatineau, City
politicians have decided to go with the most expensive
transit money can buy.
This will ensure that rail transit service will never be able
to expand as fast as it did in Calgary, where their system
now carries the bulk of their transit riders.
We will be hobbled the way Edmonton was hobbled,
stuck with a high cost system, that has resulted in
their rail transit expanding at a much slower rate than
Calgary's.
Here's a video, recorded by me & Mark Walton, and
edited & placed on YouTube by Mike Kostiuk, of that
momentous occasion, WAY back in Feb., 2001.
