Along with the tunnel between Hurdman and Lebreton, transfer
stations are going to have to be built at these termini.
They will have to be fairly substantial structures.
In addition to these two structures, many more buses will have to
be acquired. I do not know how many buses use the transit ways
today, but to make this system work, we are going to have to
almost double the number of buses presently using the transit ways. If
we are to increase ridership by one hundred percent, then this
must be.
These structures, expensive as they are going to be, will be
temporary. They will only be in use until the central railway
(Hurdman to Lebreton) can be extended to replace the transit ways
themselves. As one day we all hope it will.
So one thought that comes to mind is that we do not build the
transfer station at Hurdman, that we do not buy dozens, if not
hundreds, of new buses, but go for the railway to the east and
south ends of the City now, Build them as we build the tunnel.
The money saved by not building the Hurdman terminal, and by
moving the eastern transit way buses to the west, would be
considerable. It would go a long way to constructing the railway
to Orleans, South Keys, and all points to the south and east.
I suggest that this idea should be given some consideration.
